The once-neglected Shibchar area at the banks of Padma has come alive as the government has arranged grand celebrations for the opening of the Padma Bridge on June 25.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will be inaugurating the bridge at the Jazira point physically. After that, she is set to address a public rally at the Banglabazar Ghat in Madaripur.
To mark the historic occasion, the event management company came up with a unique design for the stage.
The stage has been designed to look like a miniature Padma Bridge, with 10 spans set over 11 pillars. A huge boat will float over the water directly in front of the stage, giving the impression that it is floating past the bridge, reports Bangla Tribune.
The 150 feet long and 40 feet wide stage is nearly complete along with the multi-tiered security shades, says Canvas Bangladesh Event Management development worker Kabir Hassan.
At least a million people are expected to attend the rally which will be held over 15 acres of land.
Army, RAB, police and fire service have been deployed as part of multi-tiered security set in place to avoid any untoward incident. Over 150 CCTV cameras have been installed.
A total of three square kilometer area around the venue of the rally has been lighted up along with an impenetrable blanket of security.
Madaripur Deputy Commissioner Rahima Khatun said that two mobile hospitals ---- one 20-bed and two 10-bed—have been opened along with ambulance services.
Moreover, 500 temporary public toilets, 22 temporary toilets for VIP, drinking water, separate arrangements for women, 26 LED monitor and 500 mikes for those watching from far, 20 pontoons for those coming through the waterway have been arranged. The mobile phone towers are setting up their own towers.
Meanwhile, Pearu Sarder and Sons have been tasked with the surveillance of two square kilometers area of the venue.
According to their Manager Mozammel Haque, they have completed most security tasks, including the installation of watchtowers and LED monitors.
