Fire Service inspects 25 container depots in Chittagong

The depot authorities have been warned to keep containers in a systematic way, says a Fire Service official

As many as seven Fire Service teams visited 25 container depots in Chittagong, following the fire and explosion at BM Container Depot in Sitakunda.

The inspection team gathered a variety of documentation from the depot authorities during this visit.

Earlier, the Fire Service started inspecting container depots in Chittagong on June 11.  

According to the inspection, 22 out of 25 container depots are operational, Faruk Hossain Sikder, assistant director of Agrabad Fire Service, confirmed.

He said: "Three container depots were in a condition of non-operational. The Fire Service inspection was completed on Tuesday whiletThe inspection team will submit their report on Wednesday.

“The report will be sent to the headquarters in Dhaka. The second letter of return will be sent to those depots that have faults,” Hossain added.

On Tuesday, the Fire Service's inspection team collected a variety of documents, including clearance from the Department of Environment (DoE) and Fire Service for four other depots in the Sitakunda area, including the BM Container Depot.

“The depot authorities have been verbally warned to keep containers at the depot in a systematic way. Later, they will be officially informed by letter," the Fire Service official observed.
