A fire broke out on a moving ferry, carrying passengers and vehicles from Shimulia ghat in Munshiganj’s Louhjong upazila.
The incident was reported at around 5:15am on Saturday from Majhikandi channel of Padma River.
Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported, said Shafiqul Islam, assistant general manager of Bangladesh Inland and Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC).
“Passengers noticed smoke coming out from a locked room on “Begum Rokeya” ferry. However, the fire was immediately extinguished with the help of pumps and fire extinguishers,” he added.
Md Billal, driver of a car on the ferry, told Bangla Tribune: “We suddenly saw smoke coming out of a room, and people were frantically running around the ferry.”
The ferry is currently plying on the Shimulia-Majhikandi route, with 36 vehicles on it.
