Manushser Jonno Foundation (MJF) with its 100 plus partner organizations expressed shock and outrage at the rate of rape of children across the country.
In the last 10 days between 19 to 27 February, at least 14 children were reportedly raped and gang-raped. The age of these children ranges between four and 18.
Although most of the perpetrators have been arrested but there is no certainty that they will ultimately face punishment, said a press statement issued on Monday.
MJF followed up on 25 rape cases between 2012 to 2016 to highlight the current status and to find out the reasons for the delay in handling the cases.
Of the cases filed during the period, 25 accused were granted bail within 15 days after their arrest. At present, 20 accused are out on bail, three in jail and two are roaming around under the umbrella of influential people, avoiding arrests, the press release said.
MJF strongly urged the authorities to take measure to prevent such violent sexual abuse against children, ensure justice through proper implementation of existing laws so that perpetrators face punishment.
MJF at the same time called upon the guardians to be vigilant and protect their children from such abuses.
