Right Haat: Bangladesh’s first digital aquaculture platform

The platform seeks to provide solutions to farmers and other stakeholders

Update : 01 Mar 2022, 09:49 PM

Right Haat, a digital aquaculture platform by The Right Kind for farmers and other stakeholders, was officially launched at the BRAC Centre Inn on Saturday.

The platform was developed under the 5-year Feed the Future Bangladesh Aquaculture and Nutrition Activity project, managed by WorldFish and funded by USAID. The platform combines advisory support and a portfolio of products and services for aquaculture farmers and market players.

By the end of 2022, The Right Kind hopes to popularize their mobile app RightFish, so that farmers and small business owners may access all of their solutions and trustworthy information.

Stakeholders such as private businesses and governments would be able to communicate with farmers and receive immediate feedback through the platform and app.

Right Haat began in February 2021 and has worked on a variety of projects to help farmers across the country.

It currently has four service points: a website (www.righthaat.com), a Facebook group (The Right Fish), a phone number (09613-900100), and a Google Play Store app (RightFish).

More than 50,000 fish farmers in south-west Bangladesh, more than 200 input retailers, and around 100 LEAF (local extension agent for fisheries) members have used Right Haat services. In the last year, more than 70 government leaders have participated in various initiatives by The Right Kind.

Three large private enterprises and a hatchery owner have already signed up as paid partners of this platform, with the goal of reaching out to their target audience of 30,000 people with products and information.

"We need to grow our services in rural areas, and aquaculture farmers need to come out of the digital divide," said Zunaed Rabbani, founder and CEO of Right Haat.

Dr Manjurul Karim, Chief of Party (COP)  of Feed the Future Bangladesh Aquaculture and Nutrition Activity, thanked The Right Kind for their successful engagement with aquaculture stakeholders and confirmed WorldFish's commitment to improving the aquaculture sector through support for various digital initiatives.

"With the advancement of technology, the digital platform has become a viable means of communication. As a result, utilizing various mediums, such as Facebook, is undoubtedly timely," he further said.

Representatives from the Department of Fisheries recommended working together with the platform, while the company expressed a keen interest in more collaborations.
