The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has refused to accept its inability to solve the mystery behind the murder of the journalist couple Sagar Sarwar and Meherun Runi 10 years after it was handed the task of the investigation, saying some cases take more time than others.
“RAB has investigated many sensational cases over the years and this force carries out investigations only when the court asks it to. Some investigations take more time,” RAB Legal and Media Wing Director Commander Khandaker Al Moin said during a press briefing in the capital on Friday.
"The court has been kept updated on the progress of the investigation so far. It has been giving us more time to investigate the murder case," he said.
The probe report in the case would soon be submitted to the court, he added.
“We are investigating the case with utmost professionalism and sincerity,” The RAB official said.
“Not all investigations can be done in a short time. We have sent several pieces of evidence to the United States (US) to collect DNA. We received some results a few days back, and they are being reviewed now,” he added.

RAB, the agency in charge of the investigation, has not been able to make any substantial progress in its probe into the murders in the past 10 years and the submission of the probe report has been deferred 85 times.
Family members and the journalist community in the country are still waiting to see justice done.
Sagar Sarowar, the then news editor of Maasranga TV, and his wife Meherun Runi, senior reporter of ATN Bangla, were murdered at their rented apartment in Paschim Razabazar in the capital on February 11, 2012. Their minor son Mahir Sarowar Megh was in the apartment at the time.
Police said that Sagar had been tied up and then the killers stabbed the couple multiple times. Their bodies were discovered early in the morning by their then five-year-old son.
