Five people, including three women, have returned home through Benapole check post in Jessore after serving their imprisonment in India.
The Petrapole Immigration Police handed them over to the Benapole Immigration Police on Wednesday evening.
The arrestees are Palash Sheel, 36, hailing from Dhaka's Nawabganj, Beby Begum, 32, daughter of Bahar Uddin, hailing from Mongla area in Bagerhat, Shirin Begum, 33, daughter of Abdul Salam, hailing from Mymensingh district, Rita Mandal, 39, daughter of Hasmat Ali, hailing from Hatibandha area in Sherpur and Ayub Ali, 36, son of Zafar Ali, hailing from Ramu in Cox's Bazar.
Benapole Immigration Officer-in-Charge Ahsan Habib said that they were arrested by the Indian police when they went to Dumdum city of Mumbai and Calcutta in India illegally trespassing at the border without passports.
Later, police produced them before the court which sentenced them to one and a half years in prison.
A private NGO in India took them in a shelter home when the sentence was over.
Later, they were brought back to the country with the interference of the Ministry of Home Affairs of both countries. They were handed over to the Benapole Port police station after completing immigration formalities through travel permits, said the OC.
