Heatwave continues to batter Bangladesh

Highest temperature recorded at 41 degrees Celsius in Chauadanga

People in most parts of Bangladesh are experiencing scorching temperatures as a mild to severe heatwave is battering most parts of the country, including Dhaka, and it may continue in the next 24 hours, starting from 9am on Friday, according to a Bangladesh Meteorological Department.

The BMD in the bulletin said a severe heatwave is sweeping across Faridpur, Manikganj, Rajshahi, Pabna, Bagerhat, Jessore, Chuadanga and Kushtia.

Meanwhile, a mild to moderate heatwave is sweeping across Barisal and Chittagong divisions and the rest part of Dhaka, Rajshahi and Khulna divisions and the districts of Mymensingh and Moulvibazar and it may continue, it also said.

Day and night temperatures may rise slightly across the country, it said, adding that the weather may remain dry with temporary partly cloudy skies over the country.

The trough of the westerly low lies over West Bengal and adjoining areas and the seasonal low lies over South Bay.

The highest temperature in the country on Thursday was 41 degrees Celsius in Chauadanga and the lowest temperature on Friday was recorded at 20.3 degrees Celsius in Tetulia.
