Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has undertaken a Tk30 crore project to upgrade and modernize the Sayedabad bus terminal.
Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh made the announcement during his visit to the terminal on Wednesday.
“Even though the terminal was built a long time ago, it has become dilapidated due to lack of renovations,” he said.
He added that the terminal has many structural problems including waterlogging.
Waterlogging at the second biggest terminal in the country has been a persistent problem during the rainy season as the drains are hardly cleaned or maintained.
The mayor said that under the new project shades of buses, ticket counters, resting areas for drivers, restaurants and public restrooms will be built.

According to him, the project has been undertaken so that the city authorities can bring the public transport system in the country under control through bus-route rationalization.
“We hope that the work will be completed by next March and passengers will be able to avail services within the terminal,” he added.
The Sayedabad bus terminal sprawls over a 10-acre area sees 300 buses commute daily to several districts and accommodates 200 buses for overnight parking.
This terminal is the most haphazard one where hundreds of buses are parked chaotically on the always broken roads.
For newcomers, finding the entrance to the terminal is a puzzle due to the solid and chemical waste littered across the area.
Taposh said that two more inter-district bus terminals in Chandpur and Keraniganj are on the cards, and added that the land for one of the terminals has already been purchased.
He said that it will take another three to four years for the terminals to be completed.
