A woman died after getting hit by a car at the Mawa end of Padma Bridge on Thursday.
The incident was reported at around 12pm on the Dhaka-bound lane 800 yards away from Padma Bridge North police station.
The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately. Police suspect she could be in her 60s.
Locals informed the fire service after they saw the body of the woman lying on the road, said SI Zahirul of Hasara Highway police station.
“We are trying to identify the woman’s name and address by using biometric system. If identified, the body will be handed over to the family. If not, the body would be sent to the morgue for autopsy,” he added.
Mahfuzur Rahman Riben, in-charge of Srinagar Fire Service and Civil Defence, said: “We recovered the body and sent it to Padma Bridge North police station.”
Meanwhile, Officer-in-Charge of Padma Bridge North police station Md Alamgir Hossain said it is believed that the old woman died after being hit by a car while crossing the road.
