The motorcyclists complained that as ferry services were been suspended, they could not cross the Padma River.
“We can't take our motorcycle to Dhaka without a pickup van. That is why we have no choice but to close the road and protest,” one of the agitators told Dhaka Tribune.
Motorcyclists came up with a solution, earlier in the day, after the government banned bikes from plying the bridge. Hundreds of motorcyclists were seen crossing the bridge with their motorcycles on pickup vans and trucks since yesterday morning.
However, a pickup van driver claimed that they were also not being allowed to go through the bridge for carrying bikes.
Earlier on Sunday, the Bridges Division banned motorcycles on the bridge until further notice from 6am yesterday.
The decision was taken following the pressure of motorcycles and two people being killed in a crash on the first day of the bridge’s opening.
