The 17th edition of Dhaka Travel Mart 2022, the three-day travel and tourism fair, will begin on Thursday to accelerate the recovery of the country's travel and tourism sector due to the pandemic.

The Bangladesh Monitor, a premier travel and tourism publication, will organize the event scheduled to be held at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka, according to a press briefing on Saturday.

Around 50 national and foreign airlines, hotels, resorts, toperators, and various other tourism and travel-related service providers from home and abroad will participate in the fair.

State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Md Mahbub Ali will inaugurate the event.

A keynote paper on "Prospect of Bangladesh as a regional aviation hub" will be presented by Air Vice Marshal M Mafidur Rahman, chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), at the inauguration ceremony.

The Bangladesh Monitor with US-Bangla Airlines will be the co-sponsor and online travel agency Triplover as the title sponsor.

Kazi Wahidul Alam, editor of the Bangladesh Monitor, said: "Following the effect of Covid-19 pandemic on travel and tourism sector for the past two years, the forthcoming Dhaka Travel Mart is expected to accelerate the recovery of the industry."

However, the trade fair will also create scopes to promote local branding, he added.

Among others, Nisha Tasnim Shaikh, general manager and head of operations of Triplover Limited; US-Bangla spokesperson Kamrul Islam; Zahid Hossain, director (sales and marketing) of Biman Bangladesh Airlines; and Shafiqul Islam, general manager (sales and marketing) of US-Bangla Airlines, were present.
