All Bangladesh rivers now flowing below danger level

Rain likely to drench all eight divisions

Update : 26 May 2022, 09:00 PM

All rivers of Bangladesh are flowing below their danger levels and their waters will continue to recede in the next two days.

The Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre made the forecast on Thursday.

The water levels of the Brahmaputra and the Jamuna as well as those of the rivers in the Upper Meghna Basin in the north-east were going down and the fall might continue for the next 48 hours, it said.

The Ganges and the Padma were stable and might stay that way for the next 24 hours, it added.

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department in its 6pm weather bulletin said rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally winds were likely to occur at many places in Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions and at a few places in Rangpur division.

Wind speeds could be in the range of 45-60kph. Hence the BMD has advised riverports to hoist Cautionary Signal No 1.

A mild heat wave was sweeping over Pabna, Chuadanga, Khulna, Patuakahli and Bagerhat and it might continue, the BMD added.
