State minister: People over 65 years barred from Hajj this year

Hajj procedures will have to be completed within 34 days, says State Minister for Religious Affairs Md Faridul Haque Khan

Those who have already registered for the Hajj this year but are above 65 years of age will not be able to go this year, says State Minister for Religious Affairs Md Faridul Haque Khan. 

“This time people will not get four to six months to complete the Hajj procedure,” he said during a discussion on Monday. 

He added that this year, the procedures will have to be completed within 34 days. 

No pilgrims were allowed to go to Saudi Arabia to perform the Hajj and Umrah in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic. 

However, this year, the Saudi government has opened its doors for one million pilgrims. 

A total of 57,585 Bangladeshis can perform the Hajj this year. 

According to Saudi Arabia’s Hajj and Umrah Ministry, 151,000 Muslims from Indonesia, the highest number, will be performing the pilgrimage this year.

The second highest number of pilgrims to be allowed is from Pakistan with 81,132 people. A total of 79,237 people from India will be going to the Middle Eastern country for the pilgrimage.

Among the one million, 85% of the pilgrims are from different parts of the world while the rest are from Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi government has stipulated a number of rules, including the fact that pilgrims cannot be more than 65 years in age and have to be fully vaccinated.

Moreover, they must have a negative PCR test certificate with 72 hours’ validity.
