The nation observed a one-minute symbolic “blackout” on Friday night, marking the Genocide Day, when thousands of people were killed in a military crackdown styled “Operation Searchlight” in 1971.
The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs took the initiative to observe the blackout from 9pm to 9:01pm.

However, the key point installations (KPIs) and the essential establishments remained out of the purview of the programme.
As part of the program, the government restricted illuminations at all buildings.
