Digital Quality of Life Index 2021: Bangladesh ranks 103rd out of 110 countries


As per the survey, Bangladeshi mobile internet users experienced the slowest speed -- 10.60Mbps -- among all the other countries and ranked last on the list

Bangladesh has ranked 103rd out of 110 countries on the Digital Quality of Life Index 2021 which covers 90% of the global population.

With 0.34 out of the best score of 1, the country ranked lowest among its South Asian neighbours.

India topped the list for South Asian countries as it ranked 59th globally followed by Nepal, 87th, Sri Lanka, 88th, and Pakistan, 97th. 

According to the latest report, among 32 countries in Asia, Bangladesh, Tajikistan, and Cambodia ranked 30th, 31st, and 32nd respectively.

The survey -- conducted by the British Virgin Islands-based cybersecurity company "Surfshark" -- ranks countries based on five fundamental digital well-being pillars.

They are: internet affordability, internet quality, electronic infrastructure, electronic security, and electronic government.

Bangladesh stood 84th for internet affordability-- score 0.02, 86th for electronic government -- score 0.50, 89th for internet quality -- score 0.41, 89th for electronic infrastructure -- score 0.55, and 103rd for electronic security -- score 0.23.

As per the survey, Bangladeshi mobile internet users experienced the slowest internet speed -- 10.60Mbps -- among all the other countries and ranked last on the list.

The country also fared poorly in mobile speed improvement indicators and stood at the 94th spot.

However, it performed well in the standings for broadband internet stability, broadband speed growth, and mobile internet stability as its ranked 16th, 44th and 53rd with scores of 1.00, 0.48, and 0.87 respectively.

Bangladesh had stood 78th among 85 countries in last year's survey. 

Meanwhile, the top ten countries on the list are Demark, South Korea, Finland, Israel, US, Singapore, French, Switzerland, Germany, and UK with African nation Ethiopia at the bottom.
