The government has no plans to allow a reopening of ready-made garments (RMG) factories amid the strict restrictions being enforced to prevent coronavirus infections.
Forhad Hossain, state minister for public administration, on Monday also warned that legal action would be taken if any factories were found operating in violation of the government restrictions.
Talking to reporters after a cabinet meeting, he said: “I have heard that some factories are still operating. We are trying to find the owners of those factories.”

As per government orders, all factories, except those involved in the production, processing, transportation, storage of food products, tanneries and pharmaceutical industries, will remain closed between July 23 and August 5.
He said that the cabinet had discussed the causes behind the quick spread of Covid-19 across the country.
The state minister further said: "When people are roaming on the streets for the sake of work, we are actually trying to check the veracity of what they are saying."
Asked about the implementation of strict lockdown, he said: "Since we have shut down the garments and export-oriented industries, the movement of workers has decreased. There are many other reasons why people are coming out unnecessarily and they have to face the law enforcers."
