United States Agency for International Development (USAID) on Wednesday organized the second workshop on enhancing the quality of development for Bangladeshi journalists.
This training was provided to the journalists working in the health and nutrition-related areas in Chittagong division.
Reporters from print, electronic and online media attended the workshop that was facilitated by award-winning journalist and producer Bandruddoza Babu, head of Investigative Journalism Help Desk, a press release said.
Subject matter experts from USAID’s office population, health, nutrition and education also spoke at the workshop.
The workshop focused on reporting on health issues in Bangladesh and highlighted the importance of factual reports during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The journalists discussed the importance of the role that media plays in communicating awareness & combating health issues and effective techniques to report on social issues.
Through these workshops, USAID will deepen Bangladeshi journalists’ understanding of key development issues, enhance their ability to identify newsworthy stories and write analytical reports.
Reporters will also become familiar with USAID-funded development programs in Bangladesh.
USAID will complete similar workshops, both online and in-person, in eight divisions across the country.
The US government, through USAID, has provided more than $8 billion in development assistance to Bangladesh since its independence.
In 2020, USAID alone provided over $200 million to improve people's lives in Bangladesh through programs that expand food security and economic opportunity, improve health & education, promote democratic institutions and practices, protect the environment, and increase resilience to climate change.
Since the outbreak of Covid-19 in Bangladesh, the US government, through multiple US agencies, has provided over $73 million of assistance to support local response efforts.
