At least eight people were killed and three others injured in separate road crashes in four districts of the country on Sunday.
In Chuadanga, two men were killed and three more injured in a truck- autorickshaw collision on the Chuadanga-Jibannagar Road at Damurhuda upazila in the morning.
The deceased were identified as Ashanur Rahman, 38, and his son Azam, 11, of Dugdugi village under Damurhuda upazila of the district.
The injured were identified as Jiban Ali, 10, son of Jamat Ali of Dugdugi village, truck driver Yasin Ali, 25, of Milebari village in Maheshpur upazila of Jhenaidah district and truck worker Monirul Islam, 30, son of Nowsher Ali of Jhitkepota village in the same upazila.
The locals rescued the injured and took them to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital where the doctor on duty declared Ashanur dead.
Damurhuda Model police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Khaleq confirmed the matter.
In Cox’s Bazar, three men were killed in a microbus-truck collision on the Chittagong-Cox's Bazar Highway in the morning.
The deceased were identified as Shah Alam, 41, Md Jahangir, 30 and Md Ayaat, 40. All of them are from Ukhia upazila of Cox's Bazar, said police.
Dohazari police station Inspector Abdur Rob confirmed the matter.
When the injured were taken to Chakaria City Hospital, the on-duty doctor declared Jahangir and Ayat dead. Shah Alom died on the spot.
In Sirajganj, a driver was killed in a fire after two trucks collided at Raiganj in Sirajganj leaving one more injured.
The accident took place on the Hatikumrul-Bogra Highway in Chandaikona Bazar area of Raiganj upazila in the morning.
The deceased was identified as Madan Chauhan, 45, a resident of Talor village in Dhupchanchia upazila of Bogra.
Hatikumrul Highway police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Shajahan Ali said: “Another truck dealer injured in the incident was rescued and sent to the hospital.”
The two trucks involved in the accident were recovered and kept at the police station. Goods worth Tk3 crore including two trucks were burnt in the accident, he added.
An investigation is underway, said the police.
In Bogra, two motorbike riders died in road crash at Sherpur in Bogra.
The accident took place on the Dhaka-Rangpur Highway in Sherua Battala area of the upazila on Saturday night.
Fire service and highway police confirmed the accident.
The deceased was identified as Abu Saeed, 38, an onion trader, and Nadu Miah, 40, of Mirzapur
A case was filed with Sherpur police station, said police.
