A massive fire broke out at Pakulla Bazar in Tangail's Mirzapur upazila on Sunday night, gutting a warehouse, four shops and a fuel tanker and damaging goods worth almost Tk1 crore.
Five firefighting units brought the fire under control after two hours, according to witnesses and Fire Service.
Locals and officials said the fire suddenly broke out when the fuel tanker was loading and unloading in front of Meghna Petroleum dealer Monoronjon Saha’s warehouse at Pakulla Bazar. The flames then quickly spread to the warehouse and the nearby shops.
The locals tried to tame the fire at first and they were joined by the firefighters soon after.
Tangail Fire Service and Civil Defence Deputy Director Rezaul Karim confirmed the incident and its suspected extent of damage worth Tk1 crore.
However, no casualties were reported.
