Local Government and Rural Development Minister Tajul Islam on Saturday said that Chittagong is not witnessing expected development due to a lack of coordination in the field.
The minister made the remarks while inaugurating the “Patenga Booster Pump Station” under Chittagong Water Supply Improvement and Sanitation Project at the Radisson Blu hotel in the city on Saturday.
He attended the inaugural ceremony as chief guest. The minister also said that it is not justifiable to elect a mayor and then impose all the burden solely on him.
“All will have to cooperate and the mayor will have to come forward in this regard,” he added.
The minister further said that the prime minister does not believe that Chittagong would lag behind while the rest of the country would develop.
“The incumbent government attaches the highest priority to the development of Chittagong. However, you will have to seize the opportunity of the priority. Chittagong is the gateway to the country’s economy. It is not acceptable that garbage will be dumped here and there,” said the minister on this matter.
With Chittagong Water Supply and Sewerage Board Chairman Prof Jahangir Alam in the chair, the inaugural ceremony was addressed by LGRD Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed.
With the inauguration of the Patenga Booster Pump, it will be possible to supply water to the people living in the southern part of the port city, as informed in the ceremony.
The booster machine is capable of supplying 45 million litre of water per day, notified in the ceremony as well.
