Chittagong’s Dr Bidduth Barua receives Medical Bharat Ratna Award

Dr Barua has been a pioneer in coronavirus treatment from the beginning of the pandemic

Dr Bidduth Barua, chief executive and founder of the Chittagong Field Hospital Bangladesh has received the Bharat Ratna Award.

He was awarded the title by the Tripura Chief Minister, Biplob Kumar Dev. The event took place at the Agartala Hotel’s Sonartari Hall in Tripura on Saturday evening. The event was hosted by Tripura State TV.

Bidduth established the first coronavirus specialized hospital - the Chittagong Field Hospital, in only 15 days at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic in Bangladesh.

For 140 days in a row – with only 21 volunteers – Barua was able to treat Covid-19 patients despite possessing the risk of being infected himself. Chittagong Field Hospital has been a pioneer in the service of coronavirus patients during the pandemic.
