A Dhaka court has set April 5 to hold the hearing on charge framing in mountaineer Reshma Nahar Ratna’s hit-and-run case.
Metropolitan Magistrate Devabrata Biswas on Wednesday passed the order, allowing a time plea of the defence.
The case is lodged against microbus driver SM Darus Salam, also a deputy director of Bangladesh Bank. He was speeding when he hit Ratna, who was cycling in the area, and left her to die in the capital’s Chandrima Udyan area on August 7, 2020.
Locals rushed her to a nearby hospital, where the attending doctor declared her dead. Ratna’s brother-in-law later filed the case.

Police on August 18, 2020, arrested one Md Nayeem in the case.
On August 26, 2020, police arrested Salam from the capital’s Shahjahanpur area and seized his black microbus.
On August 30, Salam confessed in court, under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, to hitting Ratna and fleeing the area.
Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station sub-inspector Md Mobarak Ali, also the case investigation officer, on October 5 filed the charge sheet against Salam and recommended letting off Nayeem from the case.
