The Phoenix police department is investigating the incident at the moment

Update : 28 Sep 2020, 01:45 PM

A Bangladeshi origin couple has been found dead in an apparent murder-suicide at Laveen, Arizona in the US on Sunday.

A 43-year-old woman named Syeda Sohaly Akter called officers after getting into an argument with her husband Abul Ahsan Habib, 52, whom she wanted to leave, near 40th Avenue and Baseline Road, reports ABC15.

The Phoenix police department is investigating the incident.

After receiving Akter’s phone call, a police dispatch went to check up on her and found that the husband had left the home before the officers arrived, the police department said.

The report added that the officers arrived on the scene at 9:26am (local time) and gave Akter and her adult son information on how to get an order of protection and then left about 10-15 minutes later.

ABC15 further mentioned that Habib then returned home, and Akter once again called the police at about 9:51am.

While the officers were on the phone with her, they heard gunshots.  When they went back to the home, they found both the woman and the husband with fatal gunshot wounds and a gun was recovered at the scene, the Phoenix police department said.

The police officials believed that Habib entered the home after the adult son left the house to run an errand for about five minutes.

The man reportedly shot Akter, and turned the gun on himself, the report added.

Police will be on scene for the next several hours as they continue to investigate the matter, the report concluded.

Families in Bangladesh in shock

Meanwhile, the family members of the two deceased in Bangladesh have expressed deep shock and sorrow over the untimely demise of Akter and Habib.

While speaking to our Magura correspondent Mazharul Haque Lipu, Akter's cousin, Syed Fazlul Iqbal Price, said: "Habib and Akter got married 29 years ago. They have been living in Arizona, US, for nine years. They have two sons who are 21 and 26-years-old. Akter worked as a beautician there. Habib was physically and mentally ill. I heard from my other relatives living in the US that they used to quarrel over small matters.  I heard of their demise around 12pm on Sunday."

He said: "Akter had complained to the police several times about their feuds. However, everyone in the family is very shocked over the incident."

When contacted, Habib's elder brother Arif Hasan Riton, said: "Habib was suffering from cancer. He was also mentally ill. We came to know about their death last night. But we still don’t know how they died or who killed them."
