Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said her government has a capability of facing any natural disaster.
She made the statement in reply to a supplementary question from independent lawmaker Rustam Ali Farazi during her question-answer session in the House Wednesday.
"Natural disasters are our regular companion. But we have a capability of tackling any natural calamity and we have already proved it," the premier was quoted by BSS as saying.
The prime minister told the parliament that when she came to know from Austria that the severe cyclone "Mora" may hit the country, she directed the authorities concerned to take all the necessary steps to save people’s life.
She also informed that measures were being taken to repair the houses as well as the embankments that were damaged in the cyclone.
The prime minister said Haor Development Board has been constituted for the development of haor, baor and other water bodies.
"The board has been established for overall development of the regions having water bodies," she said, adding this programmes would have to be taken and executed more sincerity.
"However, the water resources ministry will have to be more dynamic. If the ministry moves in slow pace then work would not be done," she said.
