Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has once again extended her helping hand to the family of Independence Award recipient late lyricist (geeti kobi) Nayeem Gauhar by offering financial assistance of Tk5 lakh.

“The prime minister also instructed the authorities concerned to hand over a plot or flat to the family of Nayeem Gauhar immediately,” the prime minister’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim told BSS on Friday.

He said the prime minister sent a donation of Tk5 lakh through her officials to Nayeem Gauhar’s ailing wife Rizia Gauhar at her Uttara residence on Thursday.

Ihsanul said the prime minister, in 2016, gave financial aid of Tk25 lakh to Nayeem Gauhar’s family and directed the authorities concerned to give them a plot or flat.

“But Nayeem Gauhar’s family is yet to get the plot or flat due to various complexities. When the prime minister’s attention was drawn to this issue, she immediately sent Tk5 lakh to Gauhar’s family,” he said.

Gauhar’s daughter actor Ilora Gauhar expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the prime minister for standing beside their family again.

She said her 76-year-old mother is now bed-ridden as she has been suffering from cancer and Parkinson’s disease.

Nayeem Gauhar died of old-age complications at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital on October 7 in 2015 at the age of 93.

He was admitted to the BSMMU Hospital at the instruction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

In 2000, he underwent an open heart surgery with the overall cooperation of the prime minister.

Gauhar was conferred with ‘Swadhinata Purashkar 2012’ (Independence Award), the highest national award, for his outstanding contributions to the Liberation War.

He wrote numerous patriotic songs which provided much courage for the freedom-loving people during the Liberation War.
