Veteran journalist and cultural activist Kamal Lohani has tested positive for Covid-19.
Urmi Lohani, daughter of the eminent journalist, confirmed the matter on Friday.
She told Dhaka Tribune that her father was admitted to Health and Hope Hospital on Panthapath in Dhaka on June 17 for kidney related complications and was undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital.
"Samples were taken from him to check for Covid-19 and the results came back positive this morning," she said.
"Physicians at the hospital suggested we take him to a hospital with facilities for Covid-19 treatment alongside other ailments.
"We are trying to get him admitted to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka," she added.
Language Movement veteran and head of news at Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra, Kamal Lohani later also served as director general of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
Awarded the Ekushey Padak, the renowned personality was also president of Bangladesh Udichi Shilpigoshthi.
