Update : 12 Jun 2020, 11:50 AM

Bangladesh is now one of the top 10 countries in the world among 215 countries and regions, in terms of identifying new cases of coronavirus.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Bangladesh ranked 10th among the countries with the highest number of new patients detected in the last week.

The country is also in the top 10 places in identifying fresh patients in 24 hours. More than 3,000 people tested positive for coronavirus infection in 24 hours in the country for the third day in a row till June 11.

As the number of tests per day is lower compared to other countries, experts believe that if the number of tests increases, the number of daily detections will increase as well.

As of June 10, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), Bangladesh ranked 10th with 19,725 Covid-19 cases in the past one week, while Latin American country Brazil topped the list with 184,120 people having tested positive over the same period.

India is in the top three and Pakistan is in sixth position.

Bangladesh was also in 10th place on June 10 in identifying new patients in 24 hours.

According to Worldometer as of June 11 night, Bangladesh ranked seventh among 10 countries that detected most cases in the last 24 hours. However, the country stood fourth in Asia.

And in terms of the total number of infected till Friday, Bangladesh placed 19th in the world.
