Nigeria, the most populous country in Africa, has procured medicines made in Bangladesh to "treat coronavirus".
An emergency flight with medicines -- Remdesivir and Remivir -- left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Sunday evening, according to the foreign ministry.
The Nigerian government sent the emergency flight to Dhaka to treat a governor of that country who was infected with coronavirus.
Earlier, Nigerian Foreign Minister Geoffrey telephoned his Bangladeshi counterpart Dr AK Abdul Momen on Saturday night to seek assistance, including permission for the plane to land in Dhaka.
The plane landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at about 5pm and departed for Nigeria with medicines within a short time.
Apart from the medicines, a small quantity of personal protective equipment (PPE) and other medical supplies went with the plane as samples.
Subject to their effectiveness, the Nigerian government intends to procure more medicines and medical supplies.
