Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday urged the citizens of the country to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr from home and enjoy the time with their family members.
“Your safety is in your hands. Remember that if you are safe, then your family, neighbours, and country will stay safe,” she said urging all to maintain the health directives during this pandemic.
The prime minister made the remark while addressing the nation on the occasion of holy Eid ul Fitr, reports UNB.
State-owned Bangladesh Betar and Bangladesh Television simultaneously broadcast the Prime Minister’s address. Private television channels and radio stations also aired the speech.
Sheikh Hasina also urged the affluent section of society not to forget their poor neighbours, villagers, or the people of their respective areas during this crisis.
“Stand beside them [poor] according to your ability, and your homes and hearts will be filled with the joy of Eid,” she commented.
To prevent the spread of coronavirus this year, Hasina said the government has imposed a ban on all mass gatherings and it will not be possible to observe holy Eid-ul-Fitr as usual.
“Steps have been taken to hold Eid congregations in mosques instead of Eidgahs (open-air enclosures reserved for Eid prayers) while following social distancing and maintaining health rules,” she informed.
Terming Eid day as a day of joy and happiness, she said this year everyone will communicate with their nearest and dearest ones through telephone and virtual means and share the joy of Eid and happiness with them.
