Conshus Clothing, a startup, won the first place prize of 10,000 dollars in the semifinal round of the New Venture Competition of the University of California.
Arneeb Mahbub has been working on this startup for the past two years.
He said: “I was inspired (about the startup) when I visited a factory named Hong Kong Fashions. I was just learning about the garments business but I really wanted to know more about the livelihoods of the workers.
“I interviewed many of them and found out how bad their living situations were. I wanted to help them in a sustainable and profitable way. That is how the idea of Conshus came about.”
The results of the competition were announced on Thursday at its finale event over Zoom, an American communications technology which provides video telephony and online chat services.
About winning the prize, Arneeb said: “It feels great! I have been told so many times how this idea would not work.
“It is nice to know even more people think that it will.”
