The government has shut down all brothels across the country until March 31 to combat the coronavirus outbreak.
Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Mustafizur Rahman confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune on Saturday.
He said: "Each sex worker will get 30kg rice and Tk2,000 in cash for maintaining her livelihood during the locked situation."
According to the Dhaka divisional office, a total of 2,800 sex workers of four brothels in three districts under the division will get the government aid.
On Friday, the local administration closed down the country's largest brothel in Daulatdia that has 1,200 sex workers.
Ashikur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Goalanda police station in Rajbari, said the brothel was shut down on Friday evening, following the presence of a huge number of people from different parts of the country amid the present uneasy condition.
Bangladesh reported the first coronavirus death of a 70-year-old on March 18. Three others were released after being cured.
The Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) on Friday confirmed three new cases taking the total number of confirmed cases to 20 across the country.
The fast spreading coronavirus, declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO), has claimed more than 11,000 lives and infected around 276,000 people across the globe, according to worldometer.
