The driveway will attract not only a huge number of domestic tourists, but also foreign ones, and it will help accelerate the socioeconomic development of the district, the premier hoped.
She said: “Cox’s Bazar sea beach is the longest sandy sea beach of the world and people from home and abroad come here to enjoy the natural beauty.
“The government has undertaken a number of projects to make Cox’s Bazar even more attractive.”
Hasina informed that her government has been mulling over upgrading the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highway into a four-lane one in an effort to make road journeys more comfortable for tourists.
Meanwhile, a wide-bodied Boeing 737-800 aircraft landed at Cox’s Bazar International Airport on Saturday as the premier inaugurated an expanded runway at the airport for the movement of wide- bodied aircrafts, paving the way for the airport to start international flight operations.
She also inaugurated several other development projects including of Cox’s Bazar Medical College Hospital.
Addressing a rally held by the district unit Awami League at Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium in the afternoon, Hasina said she had visited the beach with her parents in 1962 and 1964, adds our correspondent in Cox’s Bazar.

Bangladesh Army constructed the world’s longest marine driveway under the supervision of Roads and Highways Department at the cost of Tk1,050 crore for protecting the Cox’s Bazar seashore and facilitating an easy viewing of the beauty of the Bay of Bengal, reports UNB.
