Myanmar BGP guns down Bangladeshi man in Cox's Bazar

Another man was also injured

A Bangladeshi man has been gunned down by Border Guard Police (BGP) of Myanmar in Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar. 

Nur Muhammad, 35, was shot dead when he was fishing in the Naf River, on the other side of Jhimangkhali border under Howaikang union in Teknaf, in the early hours of Thursday.

Deceased Nur hailed from Purba Maheshkhaliapara area in Kharangkhali village of Howaikang. Another fisherman, Abul Kalam, 30, was also injured in the incident.

Lt Col Md Faisal Hasan Khan, commanding officer of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Teknaf 2, confirmed the matter. 

Speaking on this topic, Union Parishad (UP) Chairman of Howaikang union Nur Ahmed Anwari said: "Nur Muhammad was gunned down by BGP when he went fishing in Naf River. He died on the spot, and his companion Abul Kalam was injured.”

"After hearing of the incident, members of Teknaf police station rescued Nur's body and admitted Kalam to a hospital," the UP chairman added. 

Lt Col Md Faisal said BGB has sent a letter to BGP seeking an explanation. "The incident is regrettable," he said.
