Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has detained five members of Myanmar’s security forces for illegally crossing the border and taking refuge in Bangladesh through the Naikhongchhari frontier in Bandarban.
They were detained on Sunday afternoon from Monjoy Para area near border pillar 42 in Naikhongchhari upazila. Of the detainees, one is a member of the Myanmar army and the remaining four belong to the Border Guard Police (BGP), according to sources.
The detainees are: Myanmar army member Min Min Oo, 42, and BGP members Kyaw Zaw Lin, 32, Aung San Tha, 32, Shwe Thura, 38 and Khak Hsin, 35.
Colonel Md Mohiuddin, sector commander of BGB in Cox’s Bazar, said that five individuals had been detained for illegal intrusion. Further steps would be taken after interrogation, he added.
