Bangladesh Chief of Naval Staff Aurangzeb Chowdhury has been promoted to the rank Admiral.
The Navy chief was conferred the new rank at the Prime Minister’s Office in Dhaka on Sunday. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Army Chief General Aziz Ahmed, and Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Masihuzzaman Serniabat were present at the ceremony, according to a press release.
Prime Minister’s Security Affairs Adviser Major General (retd) Tarique Ahmed Siddique, PM’s Principal Secretary Md Nojibur Rahman, and PM’s Military Secretary Major General Mia Md Jainul Abedin were also in attendance.
Admiral Aurangzeb Chowdhury assumed command of the Bangladesh Navy as the 15th Chief of Naval Staff on January 26, 2019. He was born on September 28, 1959, and joined the navy in 1978.
In a long and versatile career, Admiral Aurangzeb has received numerous commendations from the navy and administrative authorities for outstanding performance and professional excellence. He is a recipient of a Performance Gold Medal for his extraordinary scores during training at the German Naval Academy in the Federal Republic of Germany.
Admiral Aurangzeb is also a recipient of some of the Bangladesh Navy’s highest achievement awards, including the Nou Bahini Padak, Osamanyo Sheba Padak, Bangladesh Coast Guard Medal, Bangladesh Coast Guard Medal Seba, and the President Coast Guard Medal. He received the National Integrity Strategy Award-2018 while serving as the director general of the Coast Guard under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
