Facebook representatives were surprised at allegations that the social media site was being used to hurt religious sentiment, the chief of Bangladesh Police has said.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque made the statement after the closing session of the "Chiefs of Police Conference of South Asia and Neighbouring Countries" at Pan Pacific Sonargaon in Dhaka.

"Bangladesh has been facing several cyber crimes in recent times. To determine preventive measures for such crimes, police sat with a Facebook representative team," the IGP said.
"The team was very surprised upon hearing that certain individuals used the site to post statements, images and pictures that hurt religious sentiment."

Meanwhile, the IGP also said that Facebook had refused to sign a MoU with Bangladesh Police, though representatives of the social media platform said they would cooperate with police whenever required.
