Road safety movement: 2 students held over social media rumours

Two students were arrested in Dhaka in overnight drives on Tuesday for allegedly spreading rumours on social media during the recent student-led protests over road safety.

Nazmus Sakib, a 24-year-old student enrolled at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB), was detained by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) from the East Rajabazar area of Farmgate at around 7pm.

At the same time, Ahmed Hossain, a 19-year-old student of Jamiya Nuriya Madrasa, was arrested in the Kamrangirchar area.

“Based on secret information, a special team of the CID Organized Crime Unit conducted simultaneous drives and arrested Sakib and Hossain,” Special Super of the CID (Organised Crime Unit) Mollah Nazrul Islam told UNB.

“After the arrests were made, a case was filed with Paltan Police station accusing them under section 57 (2) and section 66A of the ICT Act on Wednesday.”
