At a press conference at Gaibandha's SP office, DIG Khondokar Golam Faruq said Quader, also a former vice president of Jatiya Party (JaPa) had masterminded and financed the assassination out of his political vengeance.
“Quader thought that he would regain his status as an MP if Liton was killed. Out of his greed of power, Quader had designed the murder for a year. Luring the killers with many promises, he himself gave them firearms training in several spots of Gaibandha and Bogra for six months, before the killing,” he said.
Police findings said Quader had already paid Tk3 lakh to the killers and also promised them help own a car and a home each and other benefits, if he was reelected lawmaker.
“Earlier, Quader had once failed to have Liton assassinated,” Faruq further added.

On Tuesday, after the detention, Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidul Hoque told the newspaper that Quader is one of the masterminds of Liton’s murder.
According to police, tracing the source of a magazine containing six bullets left abandoned by snatchers of late helped unearth the motive behind the murder shooting Liton dead at his village home in Sundarganj upazila on December 31 last year.
Police also claimed to have seized a pistol, a shotgun cover, ten bullet shells, a mobile SIM card and a motorbike used in the killing mission.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Atiar Rahman of Sundarganj police Station, during the press meet, said a mobile set was snatched away at Nayabazar of Dhopadanga area on Gaibandha-Sundarganj road in the early hours of December 1.
Later, locals discovered the magazine and handed it over to police, he said, adding, the bullets stored in the magazine matched a bullet found inside Liton's body and the bullet shells seized from the crime scene.
“Upon the primary findings, we asked him [Quader] to surrender his licensed pistol and bullets. But, he just deposited ten out of 40 bullets without a satisfactory explanation over the rest ammunition,” said the OC.
“The incident prompted us to start looking for the snatchers, gradually helping uncover the motive of the murder”, he added.

Finally, police on Tuesday early morning managed to detain three people, who confessed to being linked to the murder, leading to the detention of Quader in the afternoon the same day.
Quader had also been planning to kill a candidate recently endorsed by JaPa for by-polls in the constituency, after failing to get party ticket for the polls race.
In another development, Quader was put on a ten-day remand yesterday.
Interestingly, JaPa chief HM Ershad yesterday claimed that Quader did not hold a post in the party.
