Flats and plots already sold by the allottees will be taken back as per the law, he added.

Bangladesh put war crimes suspects on trial after the Awami League-led government formed the International Crimes Tribunal in 2010. Most of the convicts belong to the Jamaat-e-Islami, a party which openly opposed Bangladesh's independence. The minister did not disclose how many flats and plots had been allotted to such people since 1975, after the assassination of Bangladesh's founding father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The BNP-led government had allotted a plot to executed war criminal and Jamaat-e-Islami chief Motiur Rahman Nizami in 2006 for his “services to the country”. Nizami, hanged for planning, instigating and executing genocide, murder, rape and deportation in 1971, served as a minister in Khaleda Zia's 2001-06 Cabinet. He was also given maximum penalty in the 10-truck arms haul case.
