Update : 22 Jun 2018, 12:33 AM

The closing parade of the graduating batch of 2018, consisting of 774 young professionals of Bangladesh Navy, has taken place at the Titumir Parade Ground at Khulna Naval Base.

Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Admiral Nizam Uddin Ahmed accepted the salute after observing the parade and march-past. He then distributed prizes among the deserving and meritorious.

In his speech, Admiral Nizam Uddin Ahmed recounted the immense contribution of Father of the Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to the Liberation War, and paid respects to the deceased navy officers and freedom fighters who made the ultimate sacrifice in 1971. He also said that, under the guidance and leadership of Bangabandhu’s daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the country has taken great leaps of development and advancement in both its economic and military sectors, with the navy in particular undergoing considerable improvement.

“Various short and long term projects have been undertaken to upgrade the navy into a formidable, state-of-the-art force. With the addition of warships, maritime patrol aircraft, helicopters, specialized force squads, and submarines, Bangladesh Navy is now a three-dimensional unit. Moreover, the establishment of naval headquarters at Patuakhali, Dhaka’s Khilkhet, and a submarine base in Cox’s Bazar’s Pekua has also enhanced the strength of the navy,” he added.

The CNS also said many upgrades to improve naval training facilities were in progress, as well as changes to their syllabus to make the training a more comprehensive, modern experience.

He concluded by asking the young naval trainees to use the knowledge they had garnered from the naval academy to become deserving, fit sailors.

Several other high-ranking officials, eminent locals, civil servants, journalists, and families of the graduating sailors were present at the event.
