Public Administration Minister Syed Ashraful Islam says the government has no plans to raise the age limit to 35 for entering government jobs.
He said this in responding to a question raised by reserved-seat MP, Selina Begum, in parliament on Wednesday, reports Bangla Tribune.
Currently, the age limit for entering public service is 30.

“In the past, students faced ‘session jams’ at their universities. But now, they don’t have to face such troubles... As a result, they are able to obtain their Masters degrees at the age of 23-24,” the minister said.
If the age limit is extended to 35, then the number of applicants and jobseekers against each vacant post will increase unusually, he added.
As of March this year, 6,13,151 new government jobs have been generated since the Awami League came to power in 2009. And the processing of 52,079 more positions is underway, Ashraful said.

Students and job seekers have long been demanding the age ceiling for public service recruitment be extended to 35.
“In our education system, students are 27-28 years old by the time they complete their education. In the current recruitment system, these graduates get a window of only two or three years to secure a government job, which is not nearly enough time,” said MA Ali, general secretary of Bangladesh Shadharan Chhatra Parishad, told a rally in Dhaka in April this year.
