The Bangabandhu-1 satellite will become effective by August, according to BTRC chairman Shahjahan Mahmood.
In celebration of the launch of the country’s first orbital communications satellite, the BTRC arranged fireworks ceremonies in the evening on Tuesday.
The fireworks programs were held at the the Hatirjheel open stage in Gulshan and at Suhrawardy Udyan. Similar fireworks programs were also to be held in all districts across the country.
“The Bangabandhu Satellite-1 will not be effective immediately. It will need around three months time,” the BTRC chairman said.
The satellite was launched from Florida satellite launching station SpaceX by the Block 5 version of the Falcon 9 rocket early Saturday morning.
“The firmament will reach exact position in three weeks, and then another two months are required for commercial use,” Shahjahan Mahmood added.
Technocrat Minister of Post, Telecommunication and ICT Mustafa Jabbar was present at the firework ceremony at Hatirjeel.
“The Bangabandhu-1 Satellite is our pride. We are going to celebrate the occasion as one of the biggest achievements of the government,” he said.
Celebrations for the launch of Bangabandhu-1 had previously been planned, but were postponed due to delays in the launch.
