Cabinet Division asks for expediting of new home loan policy

Update : 14 Feb 2017, 12:57 AM
A ministry official said two sub-committees, formed last month, are already working on fixing the policy which has faced around one-and-a-half-year delay. The Farashuddin Pay Commission had recommended for a new home loan policy in December 2015. A Cabinet Division additional secretary issued a letter in this regard on Monday after deputy commissioners demanded immediate increase in the amount given for home loans to civil servants. They demanded that the amount should be increased from Tk1.20 lakh to Tk50 lakh. A Finance Division official confirmed that they had received a letter from the Cabinet Division asking the progress of the policy and would provide the division with required updates. Sources in the Finance Ministry said the two committees were now in discussion with officials from government agencies keen to get home loans. They have demanded to increase the home loan to Tk50-60 lakh for those living in Dhaka and metropolitan areas. Six months ago a government committee was formed by Finance Division Additional Secretary Najmul Sakib and held its first meeting on January 6. Two sub-committees were formed in the first meeting. Those two committees are now looking for sources of funds and deliberating on a ceiling for a new home loan policy. Finance Ministry Senior Secretary Mahbub Ahmed told the Dhaka Tribune: “We will make a decision on the home loan issue after receiving recommendations from the committee.”
