Zafar Iqbal released from CMH

Shahjalal University of Science & Technology (SUST) professor Dr Zafar Iqbal has been released from Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka. The eminent writer was given the release paper from the hospital around 10:30am on Wednesday, Assistant Director of Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR) Rezaul Karim Shammi said. The officer said: "Dr Zafar Iqbal is completly recovered but he has been asked to take complete rest for the next seven days." Joynal Abedin, the professor’s personal secretary, said: "He will leave for Sylhet on a private airlines flight in a while. He will join the university [SUST] today [Wednesday]."

The academic and eminent writer was undergoing treatment at the Critical Care Unit of Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka since March 3, when he was attacked at a program organized by the Shahjalal University’s Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering in Sylhet. A youth named Foyzur Rahman Faizul was detained at the scene of the attack and later confessed to stabbing Dr Iqbal because he considered him to be “an enemy of Islam.”This article was first published on banglatribune.com
