2nd phase of Biswa Ijtema ends with prayer for peace

Update : 21 Jan 2018, 09:11 PM
The second phase of Biswa Ijtema has ended on the bank of Turag River in Tongi with the Akheri Munajat, or final prayer, seeking world peace, stability and divine blessings for mankind and the Muslim Ummah. The final prayer started at 10:20am and ended at 10:50am on Sunday. Hundreds of thousands of people took part in the prayer conducted by senior most Imam (Pesh Imam) of Kakrail Jame Mosque Maulana Md Jubaer. It was the first time that the Ijtema prayer was conducted in Bangla. Ijtema was conducted by India preachers the previous years. Indian preacher Maulana Muhammad Saad Khandhalvi had come to Bangladesh to join the 53rd round of Bishwa Ijtema, the second largest congregation of Muslims across the world. However, Maulana Saad returned to India after he was barred from joining Ijtema following a protest by Tabligh Jamaat and some Qawmi madrasa alems. A total 3,917 foreign devotees from 78 countries joined the second phase of Ijtema.  Tablig Jamaat has been organizing the religious gathering on the banks of Turag river since 1967, but the event has been held in two phases since 2011 due to accommodation and transportation problems.
