4.3 million new voters added to the updated list

Around 4.3 million new voters have been added to the draft voter list this year following its update. With this addition, the total number of voters in the country stands at 100.4 million. Election Commission acting secretary Helaluddin Ahmed confirmed the figures to the Dhaka Tribune on Tuesday. Of the new voters, some 3.3 million were added to the updated voter list in 2017 alone. Information of 962,396 voters was collected in 2015. Besides, 1.74 million voters have been removed in the updated voter list. The new voters are not yet able to collect their National ID cards but will receive the smart NID cards within next year, the acting secretary further said. Of the total electorate, 52.46 million are male and 51.58 million are female. As per the schedule, the final voter list will be published on January 31, 2018 after all necessary corrections. The voters those who need to make any kind of corrections to their information have to apply by January 17. All the corrections will be made by January 22 before the final decision of publishing the voter list is taken on January 27.
