Ivy was given a red carpet reception after she reached the Nagar Bhaban with hundreds of supporters at 11:15am in the morning.
The supporters carrying flower petals, garland and large portraits of Ivy lauded her through cheering and slogans.
People from all walks of life were seen standing on both sides of the road from her house to mayor office and sprinkled flower petals welcoming her for another term as mayor.
“I am grateful to the people of Narayanganj and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for choosing me to serve you again,” Ivy said after taking the office.
“My grandfather served you, and then did my father. It’s my turn and I will do it as long as I have the last drop of blood in me.”
She further pledged: “The mayor office will remain open for all. None will be allowed for tender terrorism or nepotism. I will serve people irrespective of parties.”
Twenty-seven general councillors and nine women councillors of reserved seats also assumed the office on Monday.
Ivy was elected mayor, for the second time, in the NCC polls held on December 22, 2016 with Awami League ticket defeating BNP-nominated Shakhwat Hossain.
