People in Bangladesh are not enjoying civil liberties and rights as they are absent at present times, alleges BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
“Public opinion in the country was blatantly disregarded through the one-sided polls of January 5, 2014. The people have no freedom, and all their rights were taken away,” she said in a statement on Friday, marking Victory Day.
Frustration, fears and anarchy have gripped the entire nation, and those who have “seized the power are carrying out brutal tortures on the commoners,” she alleged, adding: “Though we were liberated in 1971, conspirators are still active in our country with their ill motives.
She also commemorated the martyrs of the Liberation War and extended greetings to expatriate Bangladeshis.
Khaleda will pay tributes to the martyrs by placing wreaths at National Mausoleum in Savar on Saturday morning and then to BNP founder and late president Ziaur Rahman at Chandriman Udyan in Dhaka.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir also issued a separate statement on the occasion. The article was first published on Bangla Tribune
