PM, speaker shocked at Mohiuddin Chowdhury’s death

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury have expressed their profound shock at the death of former Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) mayor and Chittagong city Awami League President ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury. In a condolence message on Friday, the prime minister said the 73-year-old freedom fighter had led from the front in all the democratic movements since the Liberation War. “He never bowed down but embraced jail and faced repression on various occasions in his life,” the prime minister said. “His contributions to the welfare of the people of Chittagong will always be remembered.” The speaker in her condolence message said Mohiuddin Chowdhury was a dedicated leader. “His demise is an irreparable loss to the Awami League,” she said. Both the prime minister and the speaker prayed for the salvation of the departed soul and conveyed their heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family members of Mohiuddin, who was a firm believer in Bangali nationalism. Deputy Speaker of Jatiya Sangsad M Fajle Rabbi Miah and Chief Whip ASM Firoj also expressed their deep shock and conveyed their condolences to the family members. ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury passed away at Max Hospital in Chittagong at 3am on Friday.
